Chain Stoppers

To load chain, withdraw the small pin with the lanyard attached. Grasp the knurled pin and rotate it until the lock pin slides through the side of the stopper. Next, lift the pawl and locate its slot by feel while pulling on the knurled pin. When aligned, withdraw the knurled pin and set the pawl carefully aside. Lay the chain along the groove in the stopper and re-assemble.
To lock chain, insert the small pin supplied on the lanyard through the holes in the side of the stopper and the pawl. This holds the pawl in the locked position.
To hold the pawl out of engagement, lift the pawl and insert the smaller pin supplied on the lanyard through the sides of the stopper and under the pawl. This holds the pawl up, out of engagement.

To avoid harsh action and noise while lying to anchor, the use of a nylon spring in front of the stopped is recommended.
